February 9, 2024 - PnP. ANV 13.5%. Clean bouquet, no detachable flaws on the nose. High acidity and lean initially and throughout the 1st glass. Showing improvement on the 2nd glass, round and sweeter tannins, acidity more manageable but also showing a touch rustic typical of this plot. Good but not great category. 2/6.

October 29, 2023 - The current prices for this are absolutely insane. This is a good wine but not worth the current markup. That being said, not sure how much burgundy is actually worth the markup.

October 28, 2023 - Birthday celebration part 2: Thought this was from the early 90s but when revealed that this was younger I guessed this was a 2000 Gevrey. Slight greeness but with dark, roasted fruit. Took time to get going but when it did it gained a lovely elegance that brought the wine into balance. Very quintessential old-school Burgundy that did not bear many similarities to the more opulent style today.

January 22, 2023 - opened a few hours in advance but not decanted. Beautiful nose of red and dark fruits, wisps of musky feral truffle-y goodness, soil. Harmonious and just so classy, and entirely compelling on the nose. The palate is entirely delicious, and very much 2001, with a lightness to the flavors, but in this case, without sacrificing intensity, density, or impact. Well balanced, very fine. Perhaps a nit to pick is that it did not linger - the finish to me bloomed less that I'd have expected given the rests of the wine. but this is very, very good.

May 17, 2022 - Mugneret Gibourg Clos Vougeot (Medlar (London)): Classic and savoury, a lot tucked in just put in its place by the magnum of 02 next to it.

Burgundy-Report

  • By Bill Nanson
    11/1/2005 (link)

(Mugneret Dr Georges Clos de Vougeot) Medium, medium-plus colour, pretty much transitions between cherry and ruby-red. A lovely nose, impressive in a sort of understated way, medium-sweet, precise red raspberry and berry fruits of lovely width, hints of cedar and finally caramel too. In the glass it gradually becomes creamier and rounder with high tones, more and more depth - impressive. In the mouth the wine is fresh, intense and perfectly showcases the texture of the 2001 tannins - super smooth and a different class to most 2002's. Depth, intensity and tasteful oak on the creamy length. Top-class 2001 and very drinkable - I'm stocking-up.
