    February 28, 2024 - Impulse Purchase @ Costco
    13.5% abv - $7 (after $5 off)
    Grenache - 34%; Syrah - 33%, Tempranillo - 33%

Served (aerated; 1/2 hr decant) with Spaghetti & Meatballs.

Dark ruby red on the pour; semi-opaque in the glass. Fragrant nose of Blackberry and dark red fruit. Blackberry and Cherry on the palate with pepper and spice notes. Soft tannins seem to disappear on the palate, but provide a nice, full, round mouth feel. Moderate acidity, Medium finish.

I did an informal tasting comparison with the 2021 Esteban Martin Garnacha (60%) & Syrah (40%) wine I had purchased previously (87 pts); a similar wine without the Tempranillo. The Garnacha, Syrah & Tempranillo (GST) seemed to be more fragrant with more intensity on the Blackberry. The Garnacha, Syrah was lighter-bodied and not quite as hearty as the GST, which was more rounded in the mouth and seemed a liitle more refined. The finish on the GS was longer, although slightly more harsh. Both were perfectly acceptable wines, the GST slightly more hearty and refined.

December 12, 2023 - Good deep color. Syrah aromatics are very prominent - black pepper, olive, lots of dusty cherry, leather. Medium body, a bit thin. Sour cherries and decent black and red fruit, and very green under ripe steminess. For 7 bucks? Not bad at all. But nothing special or complex.
Anyone else annoyed with labels that have a critic's rating on it? I'd be ok if that trend went away.

August 16, 2023 - PnP - Nose is dusty roads, at first smells and tastes more Rhone than Spain. Over a few hours this seemed to gently ease into a leathery, cigar box, distinctly Spanish wine. It's not a powerhouse, a bit subtle, but interesting.
