November 24, 2023 - When opened, the nose had unpleasant accents of nail polish. After 1 hour this sensation will disappear, giving way to a dominant balsamic flavor characteristic of the region. Then when serving, floral notes, spices and prunes will appear to make the whole thing more complex.

On the palate there is a beautiful minty freshness on pure fruit, the profile of the wine is quite fine. Slender juice which stretches thanks to a good acidic frame to open on a pleasant finish where the undergrowth dominates. Good length.

Very good, its evolution was very positive throughout the tasting.

September 26, 2021 - Barolo theme: Mature appearance with bricking, thought the vintage as a cool one as it was similar to a Fontanafredda I had previously so was guessing 1998 or 2000. Was showing as a wine made in a middle-of-the-road style even though I believe this was when the producer was very much modernist. The oak was fully integrated and did not show much pruney character that I associate with modernist producers, but it did have a deeper, spicier nose, and sweeter fruit than the Gagliardo. Resolved tannins with fading cool fruit suggests that it is time to drink up.

June 15, 2020 - Tasted blind. Flowers, cherries, cinnamon, spices, but also VA on the nose. Good acidity with integrated, yet strong tannins, red fruit, and underwood flavors on the palate. Long finish. Nice wine overall, others couldn't get past the VA, but it didn't bother me that much.

January 17, 2019 - Tar, roses, coriander, hints of mint and sous bois; smooth balanced, mellowed, pleasing, long finish

April 16, 2018 - Not many will read this note as people have not spotted that one of the most undervalued wines is mature Barolo. We tried this against a Pontet Canet 10 years younger and this wine was judged as having more to go. It is great Barolo. The brick rim deceives because the nose is still closed even with an hour in the decanter. It opens up after a while to reveal hints of forest fruit. The wonderful balance and complexity that comes round after 20 years was on full display. No oxidation here or falling apart just wonderful minerals and fruit with bitter cherry finish. And you can still get this for less than the price of the latest release!
