April 20, 2024 - Saturday late night drinks at home. Tasted blind. Drank in Grassl Cru.
Conflicted about this wine. Beautiful nose to me. But overall package with the palate it is quite natty and on the herbal side though not green. Not a wine for those not used to funky natural wines.
Appearance is cloudy, ruby colour. Thin legs.
Nose medium+ intensity, with aromas of whole bunch spice, natural earth funk, wilted rose petals, potpourri, bit of barley, herbal Ling Yang with more air. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, low alcohol (12%), medium+ tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of whole bunch brown stems spice, potpourri, sour red cherries, decaying earth, hint of natural barley. Long bitter-sweet grippy finish.
Day 2: Interestingly all the natural funk has blown off. Showing more clean red fruit with leather and earth and grippy tannin.

March 28, 2024 - very pretty nose of roses and violets. Initially there was a very distracting green and stemmy streak. Less noticeable after an hour of air, but still slightly underripe

September 7, 2023 - Mercury Mouth ft Becky Wasserman Burgs w/Tim Davey (E&R Wines, Portland OR): This is a real disappointment for me from the first sniff. There is a clear underripe quality to it that is just too herbal with baking spices, red cherries, green herbs, raspberries, and baking spices. The Medium bodied feel shows off the green and slightly underripe tones of the nose along with medium acidity and slightly green, medium tannins. This was a miss for me. It was just too green in the wrong spots.

September 7, 2023 - Mercury Mouth Becky Wasserman Tasting (E&R Wine Shop, Portland, Oregon): Wine 6 of 11. My favorite pinot noir of the night. Light in color, dry and dusty dirt, clay, savory, salami, umami, and petrichor. Fruits were secondary to the savory notes: raspberry and delicate florals. Med++ acidity, med+ finish, very elegant. The host of the tasting detected Brettanomyces and said the wine wasn't showing as well as before, but it wasn't enough to deter me from liking this wine.
