May 11, 2024 - I haven't had that great luck with Walter Scott chardonnays in the past. A longtime mailing list friend aired it for a day and served it ~50F. This really hit the spot for the wine and showed the depth of the fresh lemons with a savory and mineral edge. Deep concentration of citrus and tropical fruit lead to a long, mouthwatering finish.

Beautiful - service made a huge difference.

April 19, 2024 - This is an excellent Chardonnay. It has everything I look for. Smells salty, and makes me think of the ocean. Bright, lively and energetic. Not to light or too heavy. Crisp and refreshing. Citrusy and green fruit. I was surprised looking at the book that this goes through 100% maloactic. I always thought that would bring out more marshmallow, and creamy notes and soften the edges of the wine.

April 13, 2024 - The Blind Side - no, not football! (Chateau Simms): This was opened for about an hour prior to tasting.

It was in a line up of Chardonnays served blind (including some Burgundies):

    1. 2013 Marcassin
    2. 2019 Henri Boillot Puligny-Montrachet Clos de la Mouchère
    3. 2018 Kongsgaard Chardonnay The Judge
    4. 2021 Faiveley Bâtard-Montrachet
    5. 2022 Walter Scott Chardonnay X-Novo Vineyard
    6. 2020 Henri Boillot Corton-Charlemagne

2022 Walter Scott X-Novo - This was a pleasant surprise! Correctly identified as New World due to the roundness and fruit forwardness, although never thought Oregon! This wine showed lots of pear, apple and sea shell, with a dash of citrus. Had enough acidity to keep the fruit very lively (not surprised when revealed that it was so young). This is a wine worth seeking out (I just bought some!) and definitely the most Burgundy-like New World wine we tasted. Solid 95 for me!

April 13, 2024 - Blind, this wine was mind bending. Was it new world or old world? Is it Fench, CA, or could it be some weird Aussie Maragret river chard? NO….it is Oregon Chard! This is why blinding wines is so fun. I will seek this out, along with Morgen Long, which was also discussed during the evening.

April 13, 2024 - Eyes Wide Shut - Day 1 (A quiet place): Nose: Dark and deep fruits with an earthy grasp, with a peek of minerals in the earth.

Palate: Has both darks and light tropical ripe fruits, fresh grass, minerals, a bit of prickliness throughout, giving the weight giving nice excitement. Nice balance here.
