December 7, 2022 - Little past its prime. Cork disintegrated and lack of acidity and a little stewed character so it unfortunately didn't live up to the expectation I had hoped for.

June 21, 2019 - 1996 Burgundy Retrospective - The Third Session (Clarity - Vienna, Virginia): Medium expressive nose displaying concentrated black fruit, blackberry, black cherry, smoked meat and earth. Very good concentration, packed rich black fruit, bright acidity, earthy mineral, noticeable but fine tannins and a medium to long concentrated black fruit driven finish. For my palate, the overall expression is rich yet masculine. Still needs time.

June 29, 2018 - At age 22, this wine was singing!
nose - savory, tomato paste, walnuts, haunting nose
mouth - savory plum, seductive with muted bramble berry notes, and hints of smoke. long finish with lovely acidity. Terrific!

February 24, 2018 - Decanted 2 1/2 hours. Medium color with a thin clear rim. Lovely complex nose shows a cornucopia of sweet and Asian spices along with some high-toned notes of mint. The first palate impression is bold yet elegant and lithe with fresh flavors of red cherry, herbal tea and an interesting briar-y note--all focused by tart cherry acidity and ripe but evident tannins that carry the whole package into a very long and refreshing finish. Very fine. 94 pts. Drink now to 2023.

November 22, 2015 - Opened and decanted for 1 hour before serving. Slight musk and funky nose at the open dissapeared after 5-10 mins. The wine is still young with lovely plums, dark cherries and hints of herbs and forest floor on the finish. Drink beautifully ofter the course of the evening.

Burgundy-Report

(Grivot Jean Clos de Vougeot) Still medium-plus colour, now it's quite ruby-red though still a slightly cherry-red reflection remains. The nose is super-deep, chocolate-coated undergrowth with just a hint of more volatile elements. Lithe - actually quite muscular - withfading velvet tannin and real extra dimension in the mid-palate. This has a super, chocolate framed, finish that's borne on great acidity. Powerful, concentrated but balanced; even in half-bottle format this is halfway between an intellectual challenge and pure pleasure, so in well-stored, larger, formats I would suggest waiting at least another 5 years.

(Grivot Jean Clos de Vougeot) Deep colour. Dense, deep nose with hints of earth, focused black fruit and hints of pepper and cedar. Good concentration with a fabulous burst of black fruit and mouth wrapping tannins. Very young and very much enjoyed.
