Community Tasting Notes 43

April 2, 2019 - Very similar to the last 2 bottles that were recently acquired on WineBid. Which is to say that it was a nice, easy-drinking, simple Pinot. Some rhubarb, strawberry, and touch of cola. Medium weight and decent balance. Lacked energy and complexity, but was an enjoyable quaffer. Looking back through the notes here, there seems to be quite a few that found this to not be a very remarkable Copain Pinot, even in its youth, and indeed was my experience at the 12-13 year mark as well. I found the 2006 "En Haut" (tried a week or so ago) to be clearly a more interesting wine.

    January 25, 2019 - 13.6% abv.
This bottle showed similar to the previous, i.e. still in a nice place, fairly mature Cali Pinot with some cola character. Enjoyable at this point in its life.

December 29, 2018 - Recent purchase from WineBid.
Nose is pretty reticent - just not showing much at all, even with aggressive swirling. On the palate, still plenty of fruit perhaps fading just a bit. Stems pretty prominent with a strong cola flavor profile which I didn't really dig that much. Not among my favorites of the WineBid Copain haul, but very good.

July 30, 2018 - This is singing and probably at peak. Beautiful balance, elegance, ripe California cherry fruit, but made attractive and more complex by a twang of stemmy freshness, a bit of secondary notes creeping in with humus, blonde tobacco, and a little bit of oak spice, but just fleeting. Good drive on the finish that keeps me reaching for the glass. Wish I had more.

July 15, 2018 - Calculated drink by dates where not the same as the community drink by dates and I was surprised to see this '06 come up as being now in the drinking window. Cork had issues but was removed with marginal residue.
Brickish red color. Aromas of dark berry and eucalyptus. Full earthy cherry and cranberry flavors with a lengthy finish. Still good but drink them if you have them.
