Community Tasting Notes 14

January 19, 2012 - Decanted for 2 hours. Nose is pleasantly meaty and dark fruity, at a very nice stage at this moment, quite rich on the nose, and definitely needed the decant. The palate is also pleasant, with gritty tannins, good fruit and nice meaty touch to it, a slight sweetness to it, quite a full-bodied wine and very Syrah. Yummy now!

August 25, 2011 - Notes from second night open. Deep brick in colour. A basic nose, with ripe plums and smoke. Medium-full bodied on the smooth, velvety palate. Again, fairly simplistic on the palate, but there's very tasty plum, cherry, chocolate and herbs on show. Quite rich for a 2006, but not quite over the top. Solid CDR-V, and good QPR. Ready now, but will last a few years yet (B+).

February 16, 2011 - Bought this a couple of years ago and it's been in the cellar since. Popped and poured allowed to open up in the glass for about 20 mins. A very dark red, almost black. Initially rather acrid and restrained, but opening up into smoky bacon with underlying black fruits, also somewhat of a green streak in it (in a nice way). The palate is also fairly restrained, with good tannins, some fruit, but not very much and an acidic bite to it. Quite full-bodied despite my description, but not sweet at all. Gained weight with airtime. Very CdR, and quite nice. Used some for making boeuf bourgoigne.

January 2, 2011 - Evolving nicely. Hair better that 2007 vintage - propably because chapoutier is no expert on fruity Parker-monsters of 07. Great example of smoky but still silky style of Rhone. Classic Chapoutier. (07 Bila Haut is great too, but don't try Chapoutier's 2007 Gigondas.)

October 9, 2009 - Enjoyed it, worked well with greek food, but have had better at price point. Didn't have a chance to let it open up, so maybe would have been better with a longer decant.
