  August 18, 2011 - On the boring side of the California Zin offerings I have had lately. Deep color that is enjoyable. Nose is dominated with dark red fruits. A lot of strawberry, cherry, and vanilla on the palate. Sweet and jammy. No acidity or structure to offset the cloying fruit that dominates. There is a hint of pepper spice, but not enough. Perhaps it would be a better food wine. On a side note, the tasting room that was once a 'must stop' for me on every trip to Paso has gone very commercial. The sausage that they would serve with the wines now must be purchased (and I think the spicey sausage really made these Zins show better). Where once they poured whatever you wanted, they now only do that if you are in their club. Pouring staff were hurried and were trying to churn you through to make room for others. Perhaps a victim of their own success?
