September 28, 2020 - An intriguing, and to steal Joel Payne's words, exotic nose. It's rich with fresh peas, green melon, cucumber, white pepper, subtle florals, and a hint of botrytis. It's more veg than fruit driven. It's full bodied, with excellent dry extract, but with enough acidity to keep it in balance. This has a sense of poise and harmony that the the Rudi Pichler '07 drunk earlier this week lacked. Certainly showing the ripeness of the vintage, but this has more than enough acid to carry it. Viscous and structured, this has power without seeming heavy. More pear, peas, tarragon, rose hip, melon rind, and bitter nutty notes on the very long back end.Held up in the fridge for several days gaining focus. It's really well made in a more overtly powerful mode than what I tend to prefer; but that said, it is an impressive, structured wine drinking at early peak for me. 92

January 17, 2018 - Something of a revelation - at least in the context of 2007's warmth - as this was both fresh and full; probably just now entering peak, with room to run. A darker straw toward golden color, bright and clear. The nose, at first, was more soil than fruit, and it presented a fair amount of slate/petrol. The second glass, about an hour later, was pretty much the opposite, with fruit prevailing (if only slightly) over the soil notes. The acids are cheeky, the palate always flowing, almost whimsically, gently but with purpose. Opened by a friend that wished to introduce another friend to the wonders of the variety in the hands of a master. Sheer joy, and, as expected, excellent with food. Medium bodied, good extract, equally good lift, a mix of yellow and white fruits. Thru 2025; if drinking anytime soon, let it aerate in decanter for an hour. highly recommended

June 9, 2017 - Very, very young indeed; vibrant, crisp with notes of citrus, honey, minerals. Full body here, but it is still very firm and not developed at all. The Singerriedl (albeit from another cellar than mine) seemed much more ready. Will follow this over a couple of days...

July 3, 2013 - excellent depth and fullness of melon/apricot fruit. Became more minerally and balanced with breathing. One of the best GVs I;ve had in 2-3 years.

November 20, 2012 - Seasonal dinner (Seasonal, NYC): 'Merely' really good at first, with rich Grüner fruit, some oily textural elements and gentle spicy notes on a medium weight frame. Michael Lewis advocates giving this a lot more air and when we revisit after an hour it's quite stunning; the fragrance is more peppery, herbal and savoury, and there's a lot more depth on the palate with the fruit, spice and mineral elements coming together seamlessly. Fantastic wine.
