June 12, 2017 - Magnificent given this was a bad vintage. Watery edges with bricking and a light translucent core shows the wine has aged well but lacked depth to begin with. There is some initial Graves heat and stone but it does not last long giving way to more autumn leafy and some strangely vegetal notes. There is some residual fruit but it's fading. The aromatics evolved over the 4 hrs we drank it into more mocha and espresso and leather notes but nothing too strong. On the palate the attack was juicy but not refreshing , a little metallic but there was nice savoriness and length that impressed. Evolved more complex tertiary notes and tastes as it sat in the glass. Quite complex and had staying power.

All that you want in a Haut Brion ? Surely not. All that can be done from a very challenging vintage - yes absolutely. In any case it was a birth year wine for family in my case and that makes it more special !

April 8, 2017 - Haut-Brion Vertical (semi-blind tasting) (Amsterdam Wijn Antiquariaat): Translucent brick-orange color. Woody, old-Rioja style in the nose with iron notes and some chocolate. Refined on the medium palate with Autumn notes, chocolate and coffee. Some 'unnatural' sweet notes in the medium-length finish. Above expectation from this long written-off vintage.

March 10, 2016 - Wow. Paired against the 66 and this was lively and fresh. Lots of depth, good balance, and nice complexity

November 8, 2013 - Very surprised that this bottle has much life left. Dark fruit profile with complementary acids and mellowed tannins.
