Absolutely in its prime. Fruit retained throughout meal though not overall quality, possibly caused by weakness of the vintage. Will keep going through 2026

February 16, 2023 - This was drinking well tonight after an hour or so of air with lots of deep, fairly intense dark red and black fruits, cedar box, saddle leather and pipe tobacco. The mouthfeel is full bodied and unctuous with slightly chalky and mostly integrated tannins on mid length to longish finish. All in all, this was a delight!

    January 31, 2023 - A wonderful 2nd growth Bordeaux, from a blend of 82% Cab Sauv, 8% Merlot, with 10% Cab Franc.

Described as a challenging vintage, 2007 exhibited dank conditions which resulted in various outbreaks of mildew, and the summer was simply damp and uninspiring.

This 2007 vintage is also described to age a little quicker than the 2005 (or 2006, 2008 and 2009). Therefore it makes a good choice for one willing to have a "faster maturing" Las Cases. For the impatient!

In 2007, light showers fell often, thus the vines and berries could not fully dry and the persistent damp encouraged mildew, reducing yields. Scarce sunshine ultimately resulted in uneven ripening across the Medoc.

Thus this Las Cases 2007's powdery tannins and good length on the finish, and its sweetness of fruit and feeling of "completeness" meant that this was a stand-out for the 2007 vintage! Jean-Hubert Delon and his team has done a wonderful job in the estate.

After a short bottle breathe, TC's bottle had fresh bell peppers on the nose, moving into cedar box and tobacco aromatics. A powerful palate of blackcurrants and red fruit was then revealed, plenty of concentration, and led me to.. Old world Bordeaux, 10 years?

Funny enough, SKT asked if this was a Monte Bello, which made me sweat! I really liked the earthy notes on the mid-palate, with a medium-long length finish. When revealed, all were surprised how well a 2007 vintage was showing, the team at Las Cases has clearly done a stellar job here!

Just to share a small history lesson..
During the French Revolution, Marquis de Las Cases Beauvoir was forced to flee France and as a consequence the Leoville estate was broken up to 3 separate estates... Chateaux Leoville Barton, Leoville Las Cases and Leoville Poyferre.

Château Léoville Las Cases is one of the largest and oldest classified growths in the Médoc. And, without doubt it is the leading estate in St-Julien.

Léoville Las Cases's 97 hectares of vineyards are superbly sited on gravelly-clay soils with the largest plot being surrounded by a stone wall and stretching between the village of St-Julien and Château Latour. The wine is a Cabernet Sauvignon dominated blend (65%) and is matured in oak barriques (70-80% new) for 18 months.

Bottle 3 of 6.. CNY Chor 10 session at my home, Teck Kong brought this to share with myself, SKT, DQ and LMC too.

January 28, 2023 - Concentrated dark fruit with notes of cedar box, oak and tobacco. Absolutely needs at least a two hour decant to have the fruit and blackcurrants become more expressive. Interestingly, even after a two hour decant the wine became even better as it reached room temperature and had another hour plus in the decanter. Quite good for this vintage.
