Community Tasting Notes 4

February 27, 2011 - I've got to sing the praises for this bottle. Opened my last bottle couple of nights ago with a simple dinner at home, not expecting much from a 10 year old CDR villages wine. Indeed the first glass suggested it was past due - some acid, but no fruit. Or was it just closed. When I poured another glass the next night, I was treated to a pleasant surprise. It had come alive! Dark cherries, berries, spice, anise, traces of rose petals. Lovely. Have now enjoyed the rest of this surprising bottle. Cheers!

October 22, 2005 - Farewell Party and a Lunch to Consume the Leftovers; 10/22/2005-10/23/2005 (Home in Tokyo): Deep red just lightening at rim. Red berry fruit on the nose, along with a little spice, dust, and herby pine. Palate is smooth and fully mature with very little tannin and just enough acid to keep it all together. Fruit is the same red berries as on the nose, but with a little dark cherry as well. Earth and fruit sweetness lead the medium finish. Since tasting a year ago, this has lost a bit of lush sweetness, but picked up an earthiness that is appealing. Drinking at peak.

June 5, 2005 - light but structured, forward nose and good fruit, red and black berries and mint and olives and cigar and spices and currants, shifting flavors and smells, very good qpr.

December 25, 2004 - Christmas Dinner (Home): Young, deep dark red. Rich nose of sweet berry fruit, spice, anise, and herb. Round and smooth with mild tannins, little to no noticeable acid, and strong deep raspberry fruit with a light pepper spice and a tad of chocolate. Pleasantly full body and good finish in which the fruit lingers. One of the better CdR I've had recently. Makes me glad I bought a case for current drinking, though I wouldn't wait on this one.
