April 6, 2011 - Made for only a few vintages, and discontinued in 2002, this "Aussie style" blend consists of 59% Syrah, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Cabernet Franc, 2% Merlot and 1% Malbec. The blend, which is not entirely Aussie if I'm honest, was aged in half new and half old oak for 15 months. The wine, now more than a decade old, has some great bottle age and it's obviously been well kept. There are no immediate signs of age in the colour. The nose shows bright cherry, liquorice and just a touch of old wood. The palate is medium bodied and has obviously lost it's fruit drive, as would be characteristic of an Aussie wine. Instead I found more savoury, cracked black pepper and spice characters. The tannins have softened nicely and there's a sprightly acidity on the finish.

November 18, 2007 - Excellent! 59% Cab, 36% Syrah plus some Cab franc, Merlot & Malbec. Impossibly smooth and silky. This has softened into near seamless perfection. Mike had first glass blind and thought is was L'Aventure. He saw some similarities in the Cab-Syrah profile though Mondavi's is Oakville and L'Aventure is Paso Robles. Fruit is fresh, dark berry and ripe currants with some silky-woodsy component that is not the least bit dry or astringent. There is also some wet river stone in the mix. Finish is really long as only a smooth wine deliver. From my last bottle 2 years ago, I would not have thought such wonderful things could still happen to this. Drink now or wait up to 2010.

December 3, 2005 - Brought to CWM Thai Christmas offline. Detected a soft earthiness underneath blackberry fruit. Palate was a bit thin, with soft dark fruit flavors.

March 10, 2003 - Intended apparently as Mondavi's take on an Australian Shiraz blend, which seems strange. Good balance of big fruit with moderate spice. Everything works together pleasantly, I'm sure not sure what this is meant to be.
