May 6, 2021 - Like some of the other recent reviews, I too was worried that this was a bit over the hill but found that was absolutely not the case. The wine has a beautifully aged medium/light red brick color, showing both life and maturity at the same time. Nose is all secondary elements at this point: tobacco, cedar, with perhaps some dark fruits lurking in the background. Tannins, though clearly on the downslope, are still present, a very nice surprise that nicely elongated the finish. Elements of blue fruit, charcoal and cigar smoke round it out nicely. I'd say that it's approaching the end of it's ideal drinking window, but in fairness, some other drinkers thought that 5 years ago. Also worth noting that at current release prices (~$100) it offers relatively good value among California equivalent offerings.

January 5, 2021 - Rummaging through the gift bin and worried I’d let this go too long. Nope. A wine for grown-ups who prefer balance. Enjoy.

July 28, 2019 - Dark red purple in the glass.
    Purple tinged.
    Blueberry, raspberry, and acidity.

(Shafer One Point Five Cabernet Sauvignon) COLOR-a gorgeous purple inky color, pitch dark; NOSE-big red fruit (kirsch & cassis); enormous intensity; a little mint play; just gorgeous; really ripe cherry; fruit bomby, yet conservative; PALATE-very silky; enormous silk on the back-end; seductive; silky smooth; polished finish; almost like drinking delicious pure purple paint; refined elegance; has that really bright, intense California fruit; a Napa cab really doing it's thing; this is a gorgeous conducted Napa Cab; really polished elegance; big fruit; explosive; I really want to grill a big fat steak and eat it with this wine; this wine is bringing massive New World thunder; you can taste the gorgeous Oak integration; this is California Cabernet at it's best; drinking tremendously now, but will easily age 7-15 years; I like the subtle black leaf tea on the back-end; just a beautiful and elegant bottle of Cabernet; I like this '04 much better than the '05 that I just rated 88 points; WS-93; GV-93
