    November 21, 2020 - Absolutely delightful wine.

Leather, dried blueberries on hints of green pepper on dark cherries, old wood shed, and plenty of acidity and tannin left to keep this going. My opinion is dirnk now, but it held up well to a decant, so if you like more development, you might wait a bit longer.

January 22, 2012 - Very unusual nose of steamed green vegetables (green peas & lima beans!?!), with just a touch of vanilla/oak. This mostly gives way on the palate to surprisingly rich and lush dark fruit w/ smooth, velvety tannins. Tannins finally come on strong on the drying finish, which features lingering black pepper and leather. A very peculiar wine, but a rather enjoyable one as well.

January 3, 2011 - This is a tough grape in the New World to get right as a rule when being produced as a single varietal. Often we are faced with tight chalky tannins that need time to release their potential. Given the relatively high price tag of around £25, I was kicking back and expecting something special - it failed to pay dividends. Given that we were drinking the wine too early, I cannot be too heavy-duty about it, but it worries me to see SA wines here in Europe starting to tick up into the mid-price range when they are not delivering sufficient bang for the buck. I bought a bit of it to see how it rolls out, but it is expensive for what we got. The texture and balanced of the wine was ok but it is all about how that fruit matures in the mid term to see if this wine warrants too much attention.

June 6, 2009 - The typical South-African smell is there. Paprika and red fruits. Juicy. Some herbs. Soft tannin. Ok acidity. Youthful.

August 4, 2008 - Terroir-istes International - Loire vs SA Cabernet Franc (Rodwell House): An intensely perfumed wine, this initially felt quite Loire-like, but that purity of ripe red fruits pushes back into the New World. A subtle, elegant wine with sinewy tannins, some dry extract, light-bodied and a long finish. A well-delineated wine, there is a smidgeon of oak or toast toward the back palate and a vibrant acidity to keep the wine upright.
