Community Tasting Notes 13

August 12, 2020 - Delicious bottle of St. Joseph. Might be in a slightly awkward spot at the moment but the quality is there. Blackberry, licorice, rosemary and tart purple olive. Let it rest another 5.

April 10, 2017 - Appealing bouquet and taste profile, with considerable power and grit for Saint Joseph at this price point. Drinking well now and unlikely to improve, but it should last for a few years. 90-91.

December 25, 2016 - Elegant cote rotie-like saint joseph. Taste ready now. A bit broad and smoky. Taste ecological. No outstanding complexity but very enjoyable

October 17, 2016 - Drank over two nights. At first the wine was a little too extracted cherry with a hint of medicine. However came together nicely on the second night. Some dark cherry and a bit of cherry pit bitterness. Lush and a little simple but will hold for a couple more years or can be drunk now

May 6, 2016 - This bottle not as gratifying as the last one. . .quite dry and a bit obdurate over three days with not much fruit detectable.

(GILLES ROBIN St. Joseph ANDRE PEALAT) On the Run Dear Friends, I'm on the run right now (literally) but this just hit the wire and it's a deal that's too good to pass up. This is close to 50% off (even from us) and it's the current release from a great vintage. I realize we've had oodles of Northern Rhones lately but there's no limit for Syrah of this caliber in my cellar. This is the top-end bottling of St. Joseph from Gilles-Robin, priced at the single-vineyard Cote Rotie level. It is way above their entry level Crozes-Hermitage "Papillon" or the "Alberic Bouvet" (both are between $20-25). The Andre Pealat it is their most limited wine (even more so than the 1920) and it is from a vineyard that is so top-rate, the grapes appear to be half mineral and half fruit. While tempting to try now, this wine is not for today - it requires 2-4 years in the cellar to allow buried strata to emerge (although it comes out on day 2 and 3 in an open bottle). This is another wine that cannot be appreciated in one sip at a trade tasting - it requires a slow song and dance drawn out over an entire evening: Only a few hundred bottles for the entire US (including restaurants). HIGHLY RECOMMENDED and VERY RARE ONE SHIPMENT ONLY at this price: 2006 Domaine Gilles Robin Saint Joseph "Andre Pealat" Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Rhone7744
