December 31, 2023 - Smoke, ash earthy and herbal. But smooth and balanced. Has a bit of that funkiness characteristic of the Washington Syrah’s from Christophe Barron (eg Horsepower) but not nearly as pronounced, more understated. I’ve had other Colgin Syrahs that were younger vintages (14-15) and this is the first time I’ve tasted the “funk”. Not a bad thing at all was just surprised given other vintages. Perhaps shows up with age. But most salient is that all those flavors come in a velvety smooth and balanced “package”.

January 22, 2022 - A Colgin Syrah is always icing on the cake...and an 06 at that! Herb dense aged purple and black fruits. Boysenberry and dirty blackberries. Black olive and truffles. Very round mouthfeel throughout. This one will not appreciate much more in bottle, so if you're sitting on a stack of these, drink all you can and ship the rest of them to me!

February 27, 2021 - Nice depth of very slightly faded fruit with classic Syrah character of black velvety density with a touch of leather, tar, & smoke. Good balance if not a touch of heat. Don’t see this improving from here so suggest drinking these up over the next few years.

February 6, 2021 - Cork snapped in half but eventually came out without crumbling. Decanted for 2 hours. Drank with nibbles around a raclette. The wine's flavors became more complex over the course of 2 hours. Full-bodied, deeply flavored blackberry, early on a scent of damp, south French spices. The alcohol was undetectable though 15.8% ABV. Glad I have 2 more bottles.
