January 3, 2017 - Terrific Napa Cab in a great drinking window. I'd give it an hour decant as it shifted into high gear toward the end of the bottle.

July 19, 2016 - My father pointed back and forth between this and the 1996 Leoville Poyferre. "How can you even compare these two?" he asked. "You mean you like one more than the other?" "No - I love them both, but you just can't even compare how they taste." True, old man. It's ridiculous to think that this is the same grape as the St Julien. Primary, yet complex, jammy without being gooey, and really barely at the beginning of its window. Had at Prospect SF.

February 2, 2014 - Finished a bottle previously tasted form Coravin.

Nose: Blackberry, Cigar, Licorice, Cedary Oak and Grilled Herbs. Palate: Long and detailed CA Cab with loads of black fruit, mineral and earthy smokey notes. Finish: Massive length with persistent tart blackberry and cigar wrapper.

Still needs time to open up as evidenced by the tasting off of the coravin the week prior. This is complex, deep and nicely developed. Extremely nice wine.

January 22, 2014 - I wanted something REALLY good from CA last night and used the Corravin to take a few glasses off of the bottle.

This is was a bit rougher around the edges than the last bottle that I opened, but smoothed out as it sat in the glass. Nose was consistently deep with fruit and a menthol and chocolate element. Palate was elegant with really deep blackberry and plum notes that lead to a stone and floral component. Tannin is still quite tough early on but the fruit conceals it a bit as the wine unwinds.

I will decant the rest of the bottle in a few weeks.
