  February 20, 2008 - Dark garnet, slight brown rim, old Bordeaux color. Big French oak, plum, brown sugar, vanilla, old cedar dust, Tawney Port nose. BIG sweet oak here....but not off putting. Smooth and rich in the mouth....showing the Tawney brown sugarness, ripe Port-like fruit of plums, cherry, currants, aged vanilla oak barrel, chocolate. Somewhat sweet and sour, still has alive tannin, but not terribly complex....but for a 17 year old Ca. oak bomb Merlot....not bad! You have to know what your getting into when drinking a St. Francis wine....big oak. But they do it well imo. Good wine. Again, shows how good Ca. 1991 was.
  
  Btw, the synthetic cork had a nice dark wine stain on the bottom, and looked to be doing a good job. This is the oldest non cork cork I've seen...and it worked just fine!
