August 15, 2020 - This starts with a lovely umami on the nose. There are elements of olive brine, and a very smooth, creamy, palate. This tends to be my favorite of the non Syrah Cayuse. This still has some brightness and will last, and perhaps develop for a while. I enjoyed it with steak. But it does not have the complexity or oomph to raise it higher. This lacks the intellectual depth of the great at use syrahs, and some of the great Bordeaux I have had. Curious to try again in a few years. I don’t worry about this falling apart.

May 20, 2020 - I have found most of our Cayuse have just tasted off, not the special wines I’ve enjoyed from them in the past.

November 9, 2018 - I think this is Baron's most elegant wine. Medium garnet, not completely opaque. Moderately pronounced aromas with floral scents, red berries, soft, complex, elegant. Slight smoky overtones from French oak, but subtle. Soft, smooth, and round on the palate, but still medium-full bodied, the flavors keep building on the back part of the palate, with anise coming in and extending to the very long aftertaste, which is slightly hot. Fully mature, but should easily last five more years or longer.

January 26, 2018 - Very strong showing off a 1 hr decant, 60% Cab Franc 40% Merlot, so the Cayuse Cheval Blanc if you will. Very Cayuse on the nose, and coming from the height of the funky period (and a warm vintage) tons of wild scents, grilled meats, peppers, and the previously mentioned funk. More classical themed on the palate, the real payoff was the way the medicinal cherry fruit played of a complex loamy / soil quality that was really compelling. Some Vanilla notes too that have seem to appear in middle aged Cayuse wines, by no means a distraction, it actually worked pretty well in the package as a whole. Hard to see improvement, hard to see a decline, so drink now and over the next decade or so.
