March 8, 2024 - Heater week; 3/8/2024-3/17/2024 (Chicago, IL): Far more prickly and less accessible than the Bousse alongside. If anything this feels a little shut down. It has the expected red fruit and perfume accents of the vintage, but the palate doesn't feel as integrated and is a little angular right now. At least for this bottle, it was pretty clear that it needed more time in the cellar.

February 21, 2023 - Simon Beatty's Memorial Dinner - Table 2 - Richebourg (Noizé, London): Served with a 1992 straight Caillerets from the same producer. This is well made and has a polished red fruited character. Palate has good persistence and well judged acidity. It does feel a little modern and worked compared with the 1992.

October 21, 2022 - This has some resemblance to the 89 Dujac CdlR tasted side by side with whole cluster accents in the nose though it's a more primary and simple wine. Fruit is still rich and nearly thick. Softens and develops more charm with air. Hold and allow this to develop more nuance.

January 19, 2022 - From a killer Gerard Potel side by side. This 93 was darker and a bit more brooding than the 95 Bousse d’Or but eventually comes around and nips at the heels of the latter. Lovely, but quite young still.

October 22, 2020 - Last of 12, opened an hour, perfect cork and level, previous notes from 2000 VG or better, last in 2011 VGI - transparent darkish garnet, lightening on rim; clean black cherry fruit, quite mineral, some meat, attractive layering slowly revealed; medium, long, some persistence, nice acid lift to fruit, quite silky, no upside but little fade, in fact last glass best. F (17.5).....always a top Volnay in the hands of the late, and much missed G. Potel.
