Community Tasting Notes 40

  • Elpaninaro Likes this wine:

February 26, 2022 - medium red color with some age on the rim, spicy oak prominent on the nose, settling some but still pretty raw, plums and cassis, on the palate a good mature mid-weight fruit marred by an excess of raw oak, good but slightly stinging finish, this would fare better with a meal than it has in this tasting setting, a great racy ripe cherry note with time, this is perfectly good- but with less oak it could be really great.

***, drink soon- that raw oak will dominate further with time

August 12, 2018 - Benchmark Cabernet from a great vintage, concentrated, rich, plush, ripe and deftly balanced. Medium plus acid and absolutely delicious. Drink now at peak.

February 9, 2015 - So sad to finish my last bottle. Had it a 1990'a tasting. It wasn't decanted and despite perfect storage the cork was dry as a bone and tough to remove. After about 20 minutes this wine really started to shine. It showed better than a 98 Dalle Valle and a 1998 Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte. It still had plenty of fruit and some grip. This is what I think an aged Napa Cab should taste like. I don't think I would keep it much longer (if I actually had any more left).

January 2, 2015 - Did not decant. Deep crimson purple color. Subtle nose of cedar and dark fruit with mellow fig. Tannins fully integrated for a round, smooth mouthfeel.

July 25, 2013 - The cork as a bit of challenge but the wine was great. It smelled fine and opened up well in the glass with classic Napa Cabernet Sauvignon characteristics. . I see no reason to hold this wine any longer.
