October 29, 2022 - Emidio Pepe Agriturismo Visit and Aurora Vertical Tasting; 10/29/2022-10/30/2022 (Emidio Pepe Winery): #2 in the line-up of 7 wines in the Aurora vertical tasting that was paired with dinner at Emidio Pepe Agriturismo. Served with Panise di Ceci (chickpea fries with yogurt sauce). Elisa Pepe explained that this was a cool year, and one where the wines age well. Much different than the 19/20 vintages tasted, lots of waxy, honey, nutty oxidative notes up front here, but fruit is still alive and the complexity is striking. Very fun to try.

November 27, 2020 - End Nov Wine Night @ GWC!: Bottle had been coravin-ed before. Nose of menthol, eucalyptus, yellow fruits. Palate of passion fruits, white flowers, slight petrol, almond, nuts. Quite dry. Slight flat though (maybe due to the coravin?). Would have performed better with more acidity IMO.

December 19, 2018 - Abbruzzo study (Chicago, IL): Turns out that the Pepe trebbiano flight was incredibly inconsistent -- a few lows with the weirdly chemical 2010 and 2007, but also one of the best wines of the evening in this vintage. By far the cleanest of the flight, with a gentle oxidative touch, and lacking much of the aldehydes and high-toned volatility that plagued the 2010 and 2007. The palate is also clean, and well delineated by acidity that helps to frame the waxiness. Nicely balanced, this shows a little bit of clean minerality as well.

November 7, 2018 - 2018 Villa d’Este Wine Symposium – Kelly, RJ, Justin and Kevin's excellent adventure; 11/7/2018-11/11/2018 (Villa D’este, Lake Como): Golden yellow and the nose reflects it. Medium expressive slightly oxidative nose displaying dry yellow fruit, dry apricot, dry orange peel, raisin, white grape juice, a hint of petrol, nutmeg and cooper. Fully integrated palate, subtle dry yellow fruit, good acidity, excellent steely mineral and a medium to long dry yellow fruit driven finish with a hint of sherry at the end. If you are into yellow wine, you will appreciate this more than me.

September 18, 2011 - This is a complicated and intriguing wine.Thyme, savory herbs, nuttiness, all along with bright acidity juxtaposed to its almost chewy mouthfeel. There is power, but there is also refreshment, and there certainly is no feeling of heaviness. Very long and very interesting. Great stuff. 93 pts.
