May 4, 2022 - Coravin fun - Older Bordeaux mini-taste (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. On the nose it shows Asian five spice, black fruits, cedar, a little cigar box, earth and a sense of denseness, compared to the other two wines and some leathery notes. In the mouth it juicy with medium minus intensity flavours of wild brambly fruit with the tertiary notes in support, tannins tug at the tongue and gritty on the mid palate. Finishes long with a little alcohol warmth assisting. Nice

November 20, 2021 - I had an odd experience removing the cork. There was some evidence of seepage under the capsule, and the cork wasn't very tight. As it reached the top of the neck while I was pulling, the bottom 1/4" of cork separated and was sucked back into the bottle, causing a sudden splash of wine to come out. I was rather surprised and confused at first until I saw the cork end floating in the bottle.
The wine was black in the decanter and a lovely dark but transparent red in the glass.
Open quickly, it was not quite youthful but certainly not old.
Pleasant, with no rough edges, but not complex. Plenty of fruit still, with some tannins as well.
A well aged nice weeknight wine.

October 16, 2020 - (10/16/20) This 750ml bottle was purchased from a local merchant/auction house and had a very high shoulder fill. The leather-lined cherry nose jumped out of the bottle upon pulling the fully-soaked cork, which showed signs of past seepage. In the decanter, the wine showed bright ruby, with no bricking to speak of.

The nose, however, was the best thing this modest old bottle had to offer. Time in the decanter and glass brought out some sous bois notes and even more leather and cherry on the nose, but the palate was completely shot. The fruit had outlasted the tannins, which were totally resolved, and the acidity was way, way down, making it like drinking cherry-flavored water. The 12.5% abv. was undetectable, though, so it had that going for it.

This bottle was dead according to my estimation; therefore, I will offer my condolences rather than a score. R.I.P., 1986 Potensac.

February 22, 2020 - From Coravin. Obvious age but also black fruit compote and a sense of elegance. a little peppery spice from alcohol, toast, savoury biscuit, a little chalky minerality, touches of sweet leather (if you can imagine such a thing) and tarragon backed by a muted slow cooked beef stew note. Lots on the nose, all positive. Palate doesn't quite come to the party, initially pepper then touches of black fruit compote that someone has defiled by pouring cold black tea over. Plenty of tannic burr across the palate. Nice but needs meat for those tannins.

Rockss and Fruit

(Chateau Potensac) The Potensac was classic minor Medoc with minerals, tobacco, lead, cassis, and a somewhat rustic and charming vibe. Had that 1986 massive thing going on and the palate was distinctly mineral. Great power and concentration. I liked it alot but the wine needs five more years I would say.
