June 17, 2016 - Dark and gorgeous in the glass
Slight rose, chocolate with berries on the nose
Hints of oak coming out with forest decay
    Some hints of tobacco
    Good earth tones

    September 3, 2013 - Opened 2 hours before serving.

The merlot-dominated 2001 Château Grand Mayne is medium purple in colour, a slightly garnet rim of a medium intensity. A rather intensive nose of liquorice, dark cherries, woody spice (cloves?), stewed plums, steel and slightly alcoholic. On the palate, a steely initial entry of sweetness from primary fruit flavours of dark cherries, prunes and vanilla before progressing towards ripe prunes and a woody mid-end palate. The finish is rather harsh on a rising acidity(medium +) and rising alcohol that can be frowned upon. Medium tannins that are rather textured. Medium finish. A bit on the fence for this one.

December 2, 2012 - Pleasant, good value for money. Ripe, modern nose with dark fruit, tobacco, licorice, marshmallow. Good freshness, well structured, round, soft tannins, good length. Don't think it's fully ripe yet. Will easily last for 10+ more years.

April 18, 2012 - A powerful wine with good potential for further exposure, and this after 10 years.

    October 6, 2011 - Drank at Davies

A nice Right bank Grand Cru.

Full of fruit with a rich smooth texture.

A couple of harsh notes but around a decent little number
