April 21, 2012 - Light clear garnet. Lighter nose tending more towards red than black, strawberry and boysenberry. The palate is a very light and fresh version of nebbiolo, mineral and modest but clean tannins, less dust and more fruit. The finish is commendably long considering the featherweight texture, tart and bracing, with similar fruit flavors. Pleasant from start to finish, but still distinct and identifiable, very much enjoyed with mushroom and cheese ravioli.

January 3, 2011 - My last bottle of 6. This wine has been a revaluation. Beautiful, high elevation mountain scents. So light on it's feet, but with plenty of flavor and character to spare. Gripping finish. A wonderful match to sheep's milk ricotta ravioli. All the charm of great Cru Beaujolais, but with Nebbiolo's tapestry like flavor profile. Wonderful stuff.

March 16, 2010 - I had been dying to try a Valle d'Aosta red and finally got a chance. What a treat! Blind I would have guessed 1er Cru Burgundy. This has all the cherry fruit, elegance and complexity one seeks in a red burgundy, except it is not pinot and costs much less. Beautiful structure with clean acidity - there are subtle, but strong tannins sitting in the background to remind you that the nebbiolo is there. This should have at least another 10 years ahead of it, but it is delicious right now. We went through two bottles very fast. Enjoyed it more on its own than with the food.

September 21, 2009 - Light magenta color that belies its ripe berry fragrance and flavors. This is nebbiolo at its lightest and airiest (literally I guess given the mountainous provenance). 13% alcohol, which might be an anomaly given overall ripeness of 2005 vintage. Gentlest of tannins. A truly delicious, refreshing, and versatile food wine that can easily navigate fish, poultry or lighter meats.

September 5, 2009 - Consumed on Tomato Day 2009. Of the 3 reds the Donnas was liked the least - the Chianto Classico '06 vintage from Fontodi the best with the Talenti Rosso Montalcino a close second.
