    February 19, 2011 - Decanting Regime:
Popped and poured with no decant.

    Nose:
Moss and orange peel with strawberry extract and mossy. Quite musty.

    Taste:
Has an Echezeaux stink character without any of the GC breeding or class. Muddled red fruits and moss and finishes with a green note on the back. Short mid-palate here but well-balanced yet savage wine overall.

    Overall:
Last of a case with very little development. For $20, to be compared even remotely to a GC, should tell you that this wine if nothing else has character. And although that character may or may not appeal to you, I assume that it would be easy to pick out of a line-up. At this price point for Sonoma Coast pinot, I am enamored with this modest wine which speaks with an American accent, although rather unrefined and working class, like Baltimore or Boston.

July 23, 2010 - A little thinner than what I though it would be. Earthy flavor and a bit tart at first, but opens up much better. Peppery or anise flavored on the back of the palette.

March 18, 2010 - This has become one of my 3 or 4 favorite pinots year in and year out. I have a problem with overextracted, Parkerized pinots and the American pinots that try to be French burgundies. What California pinots have to offer is a wine that is fruit foward with good concentration from well grown grapes that have not been over oaked. The Smiths seem to be able to do this time and time again. In the glass a clear ruby and a muted nose that clearly says PINOT. In the mouth a wine that is feminine but not wimpy - there is good concentration of cherry, strawberry and spices with persistence that follows into a nice finish. With several hours of air time a softness emerges and it is almost Pinot nirvana. Life is good!!!!!!!!!!!
