January 5, 2024 - This is ready to go! You can uncork it and go or wait for a couple of hours and it holds its form. We didn’t decant, so some of the loamy and creosote scents and flavors may be from the sediment. But who cares?!? The are dark fruited Sangiovese flavors of dark cherry and hints of boysenberry with some orange zest in the finish. A symmetrical spine of acidity keeps things fresh and refined, while the nicely integrated but noticeable tannins remind you that this is montalcino and not Chianti. I see a year or three of upside here, but there is no reason to wait unless you LOVE tertiary flavors. Yum yum red wine dumb.

December 28, 2023 - This is showing secondary and tertiary flavors that were not present with my previous bottle in 2014. Subtle notes of dried cherries, plum, balsamic vinegar, herb, leaves, earth. The tannins are prevalent throughout with a drying finish. Tasted over 3 hours from decanter, showing best around hour 2. I enjoyed this when it was younger. Will follow CT notes for opening my last bottle.

October 14, 2023 - This was a beautiful old bottle of wine. Brownish edges and a really rich complex nose of herbs and blue fruit. Soft on the palate and just a fascinating mix of tertiary flavors—blackberry, spices, metallic (iron?).

August 18, 2023 - This drank very well after about a three hour Decantering. Color was dark red almost a hint of rust, almost reflecting a bit of an amaro e style. It drink very well and smooth with a richness to it. I agree that I don’t think it will benefit from additional aging, and now is the time to drink it.

July 24, 2023 - Subsequent notes on this wine from close to 7 years ago. Dark garnet in color with some clearing at the edges. Full, forward & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with overtones of flora & earthy/dusty notes, spices, herbs, cocoa/coffee, sandalwood, anise, tobacco leaf, leather & a hint of cedar in the background. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, complex, ripe fruit flavors of dark cherries, blackberries & mulberries with spices, earthy, herbs, minerals, cocoa & a hint of oak/vanilla. Long lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & airing. At 19 years of age, it is holding up quite well & should maintain its current stage of development for several additional years. However, I doubt any further development would occur from additional aging. Fill was in the mid neck; cork was clean & intact. A wonderful, aged Brunello.
