March 5, 2018 - Monday blinds (Chicago, IL): Served double blind. I had guessed modernist Barolo here, that's how little this smelled or tasted like syrah. Black and dense, with a little bit of oak tannin as well. But no matter what it was, it didn't show very many aromatics or fruit on the palate. It's just a fairly monolithic palate.

February 16, 2018 - A very good St. Joseph, still remarkably bright, though showing some nice aged notes. This is not a brooding, dark Syrah; quite food friendly.

October 1, 2014 - Second tasting of this wine, and I must say, impressed from the start. The color is good and deep and dark ruby red purple. The aroma right from opening, and continuing through until now 15-20 minutes, remains impressive and settling in nicely; fruit and leather. Only a slight touch of green is present now with this bottle, and it lends a touch of lively nerve and edge to this dark dried fruit and animal bouquet. The balanced acid helps immensely to carry this through enjoyably from start to finish. Such a cool wine from the northern Rhone. This bottle much improved from the previous one, which was dominated by the vegetal green character.

June 17, 2014 - I am not as thrilled with this wine as some other reviews suggest. It's quite good. Some greenness however, that, in my opinion, should not be there in a high caliber wine. For the most part, the voluptuous Syrah fruit and balanced tannin and acid structure dominate the great 2007 vintage wine. Quite classically styled northern Rhone , masculine edge.

February 2, 2014 - Medium ruby color. Great nose of leather, black pepper, spiced cherry, and tea leaf. Dry, medium body and pure, with flavors of dried cherry, black licorice, pepper, raspberry, and a hint of oak. No hard edges, very well done.
