April 21, 2024 - Holding up well, lots of acidity and spice, but probably lacking a bit in its finish. Cheers!

January 22, 2022 - Opened hot and dusty like its 2007 sibling, but less fruit and more herbaceous and even resinous qualities. More appealing accompanying rich food (cassoulet). Day 2: this turned around even more than the 2007, with more fruit, more complexity (smoked meat, leather), and less harshness.

November 21, 2019 - I’d finish this now. Kind of a flat mouthfeel, with woody tannins, leather and rapidly deteriorating fruit notes. Not great.

October 23, 2019 - Mild cranberry, leather and barnyard (Brett) notes. Fruit seems on its way out. Drink 2019-2020z

October 16, 2019 - Hard with a moderate tannin load and fading fruit. I don’t see this recovering. Drink 1 year.

(SIFFREIN CdP rouge) Chateauneuf-du-Pape Dear Friends, This one does not require a story - no spy novels, Dutch woman, pizza intimidation or other - it's all about the wine and subsequent price/value. Chateauneuf-du-Pape brings people out of the woodwork like nothing else so this is one of those offers where I hit the "send" button and run for cover. With that, here goes... This is a great deal. It isn't the 2005 or 2007 but who cares? The 2005 is $30-40 (the 2007 is almost $50) and the 2006 is every bit as good? All of us need something to drink while we wait for our "better" vintages to mature and this is about the best "lesser" CdP I've had in a long time (I'm not so sure this is a lesser wine - I just tasted 10 vintages of Saint Siffrein Chateauneuf-du-Pape and the 2006 was in the top three - if you count back 10 years, that includes 1998 - 2007 so that's a pretty big statement). In a nutshell, the price we have today is for one reason only and it has nothing to do with quality: a single individual has deemed 2007 the greatest vintage in history and that has made the 2006's expendable to most of the western market. Right or wrong, it has presented some of the more bizarre opportunities I've seen in the trade. This is one of them...and it's the current release no less. When I come across a wine like this, it requires no review or write-up. It only requires a few sips and the offer will write itself. Here's the offer: Chateauneuf-du-Pape of this origin does not cost $22+ very often. That's about it: 2006 Domaine Saint-Siffrein Chateauneuf-du-Pape (rouge) Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Rhone7597
