March 29, 2009 - A bottle John Livingstone-Learmonth gave to me when we met up in Tavel some years ago. Suprising concentration of fruit given the vintage, but I sense a lot of new oak here and some quite aggressive extraction too. I couldn't drink more than half a glass the first evening and decided to pull the cork on a 2001 Pierre Usseglio instead. On day 2 the oak has retreated a little bit and there is some okay black berry fruit and smoke here. The tannins are prominent, so I could have opened this too early. Nevertheless this will never turn into something interesting or great.
