January 18, 2024 - Part of an auction purchase for us to experience a well-aged Brunello di Montalcino. A medium ruby in the glass extending out to highly thinned and slightly bricked edges. The nose beckons with soft red berries and plum, along with an aged leather-bound book, mahogany, violet and overripe orange rind. Still decently present on the palate, with still very good acidity, a touch of spice joins the aromatic notes. A nice pairing with a Best Italian Meat Sauce pasta. One bottle left and will be glad to consume in upcoming months.

August 1, 2016 - Drink definitely now, this 2000 Brunello di Montalcino is possibly 1-2 year past peak, but still a real treat. Tea, classic Italian wine nose (what does that mean), pencil lead, violets, cloves, sweet vanilla. Not the best year from Montalcino, shows through is slightly less concentrated fruit, but getting picky now.

Would pair incredibly with lean stewed meat (lean because the tannins have quite settled down with age).

April 18, 2011 - Not the best Brunello I've ever tasted but not bad either. Quite fragrant, but is definitely on the light side when it hits the palate. Shows quite a bit of Brunello character, but just falls a bit short of being a classic wine. Some cherry notes, soft tannins, not much stuffing or grip. Medium finish. Pleasant drinking, but I expected more from this.
