October 9, 2023 - Just enter drinking window, need a lot of decanting time. Easily 4-5 hours to soften the tannin and open up. Medium+ nose intensity with notes of black fruits, toast, spices. Medium+ acidity and medium+ tannin. Tannin is fine. Long finish. Will get better with ageing. Drink or keep.

August 28, 2022 - I won a case of the 2008 Canon a ways back — when wine was cheap, democracy secure, and inflation at 1.35% — and I’ve kinda regretted it ever since.

A case is a lot of a single wine, at least for my tastes. And some notes on CT indicated this wine was uninspired.

So I tried a bottle myself 6.5 years ago and I thought it was decent, maybe even good, but nothing calling to set aside 10+ bottles of for future posterity. Boy, was I wrong.

I opened #2 of the case tonight and I’m happy I didn’t dump thIs. Cool fruited, uber minerally with graphite and stones, followed with cedar and spices. A subtle yet engaging bouquet. Tangy and earthy to taste, but not tannic despite plenty of body. This is still young but so well balanced you can enjoy now with a long decant. I doubt this will ever be a flashy wine, but with its sneaky depth and classy presentation, it should reward another 5-10 years in the cellar handsomely. A wine that would especially appeal to Burgundy lovers I’d wager. 92+ pts.

July 14, 2022 - 13072022 - blind tasting dinner with @Joe Yee Wong & new vinos from SG & Penang. My 2nd bottle for the night. Still too young at initial pop. Bottle breathed this for almost 4 hours before pouring. Still much to evolve and I would assume peak drinking period btwn 2025-2028. Great acidity, prominent & well integrated tannins. Plenty of structure & depth from the finish. Expect plums, some blackcurrant, tobacco notes, truffle and violet.

    September 9, 2021 - 75 Merlot 25 Cabernet Franc

Black core, brown-tinted garnet yet compact rim. Opaque.

Initially quite muted. After 2 hours, the nose started to open up to a complex array of crushed red fruits, sauteed mushroom aromas, lightly charred cedar, and gentle sprinkle of spices.

The palate is dense but round. Good tannic structure still. Medium body, medium to medium plus acidity. Red cherry, cassis, mineral and graphite, hint of truffle, sweet vanilla spice. Finish is long and aromatically satisfying.

I like this wine a lot. It's coming around after 14 years, though still need at least 2 hours of decanting to really sing. Classic St Emilion. So much class and elegance. Drink now or until 2028 for the secondary peak of drinking window. 92.
