August 2, 2023 - Superb from the moment the cork is pulled, offering deep cooked orchard fruit, a touch of lemon zest, butterscotch, marcona almond, and hazelnut. Though the flavors are mostly tertiary now, there’s so much energy here to balance. A big, rich wine - glorious, mature Batard.

September 5, 2021 - This is flat-out sensational. At nearly 30 years old, this is weighty and grand and long and wide open with concentrated citrus and orchard fruits with just enough lingering acidity to hold everything together. Layers upon layers of flavor. This shows a bit of nuttiness and meyer lemon that one gets with age, but this is in no danger of fading and, remarkably, could even improve. Absolutely everything I could ever want in a White Burg--or, really, in any wine. Thrilling and memorable. (And the Platonic ideal of a pairing with grilled lobster.)

July 28, 2021 - Impressive for the vintage and age. Pretty aromas of orchard fruits and buttery notes. Nice round rich textures and impressive fruit flavors with hint of light hazelnut on the finish adding to the complexity. Quite regal and lovely. Drink up. Opened for Oriole 2.0 Dinner.

August 5, 2017 - From an excellent looking bottle, this wine had a bright, deep yellow center and clear rims. The medium intensity nose showed an excess of vanilla when first poured. However, after 4 hours of air it offered up citrus, sweet apple, egg custard, and white stone.

In the mouth, this wine was rich and ripe with beautifully integrated acidity and excellent length. It had lovely balance and was only missing some of the complexity a truly mind-boggling wine can offer.

This wine was at its peak but will likely last 5-10 years at this level.

February 12, 2017 - Form an nice looking bottle with a 2 cm fill, this wine had a bright, deep yellow center and clear rims. The medium+ intensity nose showed apple, baguette, egg cream, and a touch of nutmeg.

In the mouth, this wine started out relatively lean and compact with good acidity and some richness. It would have scored around 91. As the wine aired, the richness really came out and overwhelmed the acidity. After about 3 hours the acidity started building again and the wine came back into balance, but this time at a whole different level.

It was rich and ripe as one would expect from a Batard in a ripe year like 1992. The acidity was strong but diffuse and the wine developed excellent length after 4 hours of air.

I was very pleased that this wine did not show an excess of wood that is sometimes present in Jadot wines. While I doubt this will get a lot better, it will certainly last for 10+ years.
