Community Tasting Notes 5

December 22, 2023 - Not sure how to place this wine, or if it's because it came late in the tasting amongst some very pleasurable wines. The fresh pour offered some salted prawn cracker notes, the fruit was rustic and dark, showing some strength and then went hollow at the back. Vigorous swirling didn't resuscitate the wine for me.

December 21, 2023 - Piedmont theme: My contribution. Huge monster of a wine - made like a Napa Cab in that era. Extracted, woody and chewy tannins. Not my cup of tea, very much prefer their recent vintages that have a more red-fruited style.

March 29, 2021 - The wine is still very young, it is at the secondary stage with a lot of primary notes. It was at it's best on the second day but still drying tannins on the finish. It really needs food at this stage of evolution. Recommendation would be an extended decant (7hrs+) if to be consumed now or else, let it sleep for at-least 5 years. The score can go up to 93-94 with maturity.

Edit: Had one glass on the 4th day and it tasted unchanged since day 2 with the drying tannins. Given this information, I think this is gonna hit its stride probably at 30yrs of age or something like that.

September 22, 2018 - This needs more time. Even after about three hours of decanting the tannins are a bit too pronounced still. Modest nose of strawberries and flowers. The palate is a somewhat structured strawberry, cherries, earth and herbs. The finish is still a bit obscured by tannin. But I think this will continue to evolve well and my score would improve in a few years.

June 4, 2012 - A really tasty, chewy and dense Riserva. Yet, it is also refined and elegant. Quite strongly perfumed and still a couple of years from peak. Great balance as always with this producer.
