March 29, 2024 - This started out so promisingly; cedar, cassis, tobacco and leather seasoned with spice and underpinned with pleasing tannins. Savoury but with a subtle sweetness induced by barrique ageing this developed a satisfying mocha finish. In spite of its maturity the wine also retained an uplifting freshness, but the entire construct was marred by Brett which once detected became ever more dominant with each successive mouthful, and accordingly my initial high score in the low 90s, fell to an 89. CHP 89 pts

March 27, 2024 - Once again, much improvement from the 08, which has defied my initial expectations. It won't quite hit the heights of the 01, I think, but it's better than the 02, 04 or 06 and arguably better than the 03. It has taken on depth and body over the years, which is weird, but above all a certain Pauillac-like gravitas, with cassis and cedar notes on the nose and a moderate dose of cassis in the mouth, whilst remaining true to the SM tradition of a slight mintiness to the finish.
Still readily accessible, this is well worth trying.2 people found this helpful Comment -

November 8, 2023 - 10 months ago I had a 2001 vintage - 92 points. Let's see if this younger one is also a better one. 2 hours in the decanter
⏰🕙🕐
The story of this Chateau could be great for a movie.
Very shortly - it was established in 1633! In 1969 Chateau in very poor condition was bought by negociant Jean Gautreau. Now - many critics agree that it belongs to the 5th Growth Class category. People like it or hate it because Chateau doesn't green harvest or de leaf in the summer like most estates.
It is rustic, full of herbs.
Let's see
It's soft, it's balanced, it's polished. Silky texture. Perfect ripe, grippy tannins and vivid acidity. Herbs? Yes they are here, but also red cherries, blackberries, minerals, tobacco ( really nice and visual) and spice. Long, long finish with spice.
Nice smell of ripe red cherry, forest, cedar.
I don't know if it's good or bad, but me and my wife emptied this bottle in about an hour. 😱😃
