August 24, 2023 - Exuberant nose of black fruits, olives, a touch of herbs and vanilla.

Palate of enormous richness. The juice is extremely dense, with great maturity. The wine is layered with gorgeous dark fruit, cassis, cherry, and blueberry. Then come the cocoa and coffee beans. And sweet spices, medicinal herbs. The touch of vanilla comes at the very end of the mouth, as if to sprinkle an already very rich whole to which there is no need to add too much. The wine is deep, still very young, with a high-level balance since the acidity gives suppleness and sapidity to this large, serene creature. Impressive finish that stretches with tannins still present but very supple on aromas of cocoa.

Great Californian wine, it would be interesting to put it in a few years against a great Pauillac

March 15, 2023 - Tasting Ground official tasting, 2007 Verite (Oinsocent): Vérité La Joie was inspired by the finest wines from the Pauillac region of Bordeaux. La Joie is derived from a layered concentration of Cabernet Sauvignon vines grown along the steep hillsides and volcanic benches of the Mayacamas Mountains.

barrel aging: Aged 16 months in 100% new French oak
varietal breakdown: 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc,
    5% Petit Verdot, 4% Malbec
appellations: Alexander Valley, Bennett Valley, Chalk Hill, Knights Valley
    alcohol: 14.4%

In the nose, the wine shows medium intensity, filled with black fruit, currant, cherries, herbal notes again adding freshness, the oak sits in the back, black olive notes.
In the palate, the wine shows full body, highly extrovert, black currants, black cherries, coffee notes. The wine shows the tightest tannins of them all but they are aggressive by any means. This is also the one with the most depth and complexity, long finish

February 8, 2023 - Napa 2023: the quieter version; 2/6/2023-2/11/2023 (Napa/Sonoma California): 2007 was THE vintage when we first started drinking Napa cab with any regularity. When we did our initial tasting it was always a ‘treat’ to try this hallowed vintage. I never liked it the way you were meant to. 2008 was my jam. 2007 was (forgive me, I’m a female) the super cute blond 20 something year old that makes you feel special but maybe if you scratch the surface it’s not so deep and the 2008 was how I imagined one might feel about the 55 year old elegant dame that they’d been married to for six years who had all of the substance. Over time the critics and everyone else have jumped on my initial assessment (belatedly) and I’ve actively ignored this vintage. The great thing about blind. You don’t know. So I try this and I’m thinking we’re in Joie again but again something really young and definitely something that has more layers. This has age (albeit it’s young but there’s another level of interest here), super balanced. It’s special. Perhaps the best ‘07 I’ve ever had. I’m not changing my broader opinion but for good winemakers you have to make exceptions. These are special.

September 11, 2022 - dark red - somewhat subdued nose of black cherries, cassis and just a few tertiary aromas - rich mouth of similar flavors, good acid-tannin-fruit balance - a delightful wine to drink, but I don't think i would mistake this for a top-notch Bordeaux - it lacks the elegant balance and more complex aromas that I expect - best (for me) to just call it a very well made and enjoyable CA cab for now, but it certainly has room to develop further

August 3, 2022 - For me, WOTN side by side with its siblings, the La Joie needed a bit of air to really open up. Almost black/purple in color, the nose showed concentrated cassis, hints of tobacco, toffee, herbs. On the palate, richly flavored but balanced, with all of that power wrapped by supple tannins and supported by just enoug acidity and an endless mineral finish. Stunning.
