December 25, 2023 - Ever so slightly affected by TCA, but still gave a fair amount of drinking pleasure. Decanted as it should be.

October 15, 2023 - Why are there no reviews of this wine anywhere?
I know that the 1937 vintage got a bad reputation.
No doubt, these wines must have been just about unapproachable early on.
However, some 86 years later at least some of them are showing very well...
    First of 6 bottles.
Top shoulder fill. Clearly out of a wooden case as the purple tissue paper was still partially stuck to the bottles.
Capsule and cork in excellent condition. The cork was fully soaked but, remarkably, came out in one piece. Something to be said for lead capsules...
Beautiful hue with minimal browning after 86 years. Could have passed for a wine half a century younger! Well settled. Not decanted but allowed to open in the glass.
This is truly old school Medoc and would not appeal to everyone; especially those obsessed with fruit dominance.
While there still are some remnants of evolved fruit, the aromatics are clearly dominated by tertiary notes. This is what you would expect at this age. Perhaps some herbaceous note but fully integrated in this wine along with the tobacco, earthy and graphite notes. Not even a hint of soy.
The texture is fairly firm but pleasant. It makes for a great food pairing wine. Everything is in harmony in this somewhat reserved style.
This kind of wine doesn't exist anymore..
Will last a lot longer for well preserved bottles.
