This blend of 85% Zin is, depending on your point of view, either boosted or hindered by 14% Petite Sirah and 1% Carignane. When drinking this bottle, I noted flavors of plum, herbaceousness (and not in a good way), cocoa and toffee. Looking back at my notes from 5 years ago when I last opened a bottle of this stuff, I noted plum, something herbal and mocha. It appears that little has changed in this wine. Much better Zin can be had for fewer dollars. For that reason, it’s ranked Recommended with Reservations, but leaning heavily toward Not Recommended.

  March 24, 2013 - For a 10 year old Zin (back label says 5-8 optimal) this bad boy has not grown up one lick! Sort of like a 28 year old juvenile delinquent that you hope grows up SOME DAY but its getting a little late...... Very Brambly, juicy, blackberry fruit on the nose and palate with subtle spicey overtones (nice touch that) but over all the impression is disorganized, wild, brambles out of control, juicy juicy, tannins on the end. A touch crazy. All in all interesting.
  
  Tasted again after the bottle had a few days to open up. Much more civilized. Nice smooth tannins on the mid palate, much more elegant. 89+
