October 18, 2021 - Wine Workshop: White Label Giacosa and White Truffles (Locanda Verde): Take this with a grain of salt because I'm not sure anyone else was getting this but this wine was all annise to me and almost maybe licorice. Dark and brooding and not so much in the fruit or floral character. Very different. Not off - it was a tasty bottle. Just unique compared to some of the others.

July 18, 2015 - Dinner at Gravy with Bryan & Michelle. I did not see the cork as the waiter pulled it but would have liked to see if it was in bad shape as this was not a good showing for this wine. A very ponderous wine with resolved tannins and some rose aromas but not much else. Not a bad wine but not what one expects from Giacosa. Hopefully just an off bottle as it is the first of a case. 50+11+11+7+7=86

January 18, 2015 - Initially, while everyone else was raving about the nose I thought it showed signs of being stewed or too old like the btl I brought but, no where near as bad. Just over the curve from it's likely top performance a few years back. One of those moments when you think, "what am I not getting about this nose?" Overtime it did seem to clean up and take on more appeal. In the end with food I found this wine to be superb. I would rate it higher if I could share everyone else's love for the nose. Very good but not the head turning wow I was hoping for. I think, while still very good, it was a just bit past its prime. I'd drink up unless your storage has been outstanding. This btl was relatively recently sourced from a retailer so likely "so so" provenance. Happy to drink it though.

January 18, 2015 - Monthly Tasting Group: Barolo & Barbaresco (Cafe Lurcat, Mpls, MN): Enough for just two swallows, but very good. Same bottle as Bellissimo's. I'll add that there was some subtle dill and some great dried herbs and dried berries. Resolved and delightful. Impression 93pts.

January 18, 2015 - Fairly saturated cork, crumbled taking out. Ended up filtering into a decanter and brought the decanter to a wine dinner. By the time we got around to this it had been given around 3.5 hours of air. Had in glass approximately 30 minutes in front of me.

Very floral with some mushrooms and soy sauce. Pleasant acids up front, tannins nicely resolved. This reminded me of a nicely aged Burg with a little more weight. So enjoyable. Have one more bottle I'll open with my special someone in the next 5 to 10 years.

Tasted along side a 98 Giacosa Barbaresco Rabaja and served with roasted Amish chicken with Au Bon Canard foie gras stuffing and truffle chicken jus. These two wines and the course were worth the price of admission. Crazy good.
