April 2, 2024 - 1st of 12, opened an hour then decanted 30 minutes, perfect cork and level - dark but transparent ruby, little development; cherry, touch of cranberry, slightly sour and mineral edge, pure, fresh and reasonably complex; medium bodied, long, notably persistent, bright fruit, fine balance and grip, slightly simple as yet with unresolved fine tannin apparent on exit, adolescent but drinking, much upside, 20+ years. F+ (18) for now........nice to get an Angerville wine that is actually a good drink as they take an age to come round often going in and out of sulky phases (eg 95, 98 and 99); the 03 is probably to be preferred for current drinking but I suspect this will have the edge when fully mature in say 10 years and the Lord only knows when the 05s will be ready!

December 26, 2023 - Color hardly faded and a nose of earth, subtle dark cherries, and sweet tobacco. Medium bodied, immaculately balanced with a long finish. This is delicious now but has plenty of life left. Wish I had more bottles!

October 27, 2023 - 2002 Beaune and Volnay Premier Crus (San Francisco): Light ruby with lighter outer quarter. More cherry and spice on the nose without the green element of the Champans. Medium to lighter weight. Beautiful interplay of fruit, spice, and a touch of menthol in the mouth. Light, earthy, and mineral with a tart, tannic finish. Already excellent but a good 5 (?) years away from maturity.

June 4, 2023 - A point. Griottes on the nose with a strong attack and a long finish. Youthful red color, perfect accompaniment to subtle/haut cuisine. Sublime.

April 15, 2023 - Perfect cork, young color, deep crystalline ruby. I got nothing on nose. Palate smooth and firm, medium to full bodied. Mixed reviews from the table. I'm guessing I should have decanted an hour or two, or maybe opened 5 years ago.

(Marquis d'Angerville Volnay Taillepieds) (From magnum) Medium, medium-plus cherry red. The nose starts in a very mineral way with hints of cedar eventually giving way to red berries and a slow build-up of coffee. The concentrated palate bursts with explosive red fruits and plenty of grainy tannin - but there’s no hint of astringency - the acidity pulling you into a long finish that has a rather darker fruit complexion. Very accomplished and very tasty.
