December 21, 2023 - 7th of 18, opened an hour then splash decanted, perfect cork and level, slightly rounder than last March's bottle, but still on lean and mean side, attractive purity and class to the fruit, not as nice a drink today as previous night's Roblet-Monnot '02 but heading in right direction with possibility of significant upgrade if it rounds out as I expect, 15+ years. F (17.5).

December 8, 2023 - Corked. The underlying material seemed absollutely stunning.

February 8, 2023 - Opened 2 hours before pouring. At first, ripe, plummy fruit monopolizes the nose, but after about an additional hour of air, more high toned pine notes balance the fruit. Lightweight but real sap to it. Perfectly ripe cherry fruit on the round entry, then citrus and a deeply stony finish with mostly resolved tannins. Not too long ago, a '99 Champans was overripe and pruny, but this was beautifully balanced and a complete wine. At peak now, fantastic wine.

March 21, 2022 - 6th of 18, opened 30 minutes, perfect cork and level, attractive purity and verve to the flavours, but surprisingly lean and pinched for a 99 hence downgrade though I suspect it will start rounding out, certainly improved in glass, upside, 15+ years (it's Angerville and they last!). At least F (17.5).

January 23, 2022 - In deference to Honest Bob's comment, I, too, am not a fan of d'Angerville. In fact, I put all but one of my bottles out to auction some time ago. My experience is that they take forever to come around and by then most of the fruit is gone. Alas, my last bottle was this '99 consumed last night at Bay Colony Golf Club in Naples and it was perfect. A beautiful combination of blue/black fruits, good acidity and "tension." The wine's color and depth were excellent. I don't think Volnay can get better than this.
