February 17, 2024 - Meaty and perfumed aromas with sweet cherries, flowers and some tar. Fruity, meaty, velvety and elegant on the palate, still with great concentration and length.

August 9, 2023 - In a wonderful drinking spot, with depth expressiveness and mellowed tannins. Resonant, rich, precise. This has just started to got some tertiary sides which show so well in a vintage like 1999 at this time. Great elegant length. Old school as it should be.

November 12, 2022 - Nebbiolos, white truffles, Volume VII (Chicago, IL): Another large-scaled Barolo, with its massive wall of dark and chewy tannin. I really liked the sweeter fruit here (more black than red) that helped offset some of that imposing tannic structure. I admit tonight that I had trouble getting a great read on the two Rinaldi Tre Tines (using that as shorthand) because of the forbidding tannins relative to all the other wines on the table, but in isolation I think these would have showed a lot better to my palate.

November 13, 2021 - White Truffles & Nebbiolo - 2021 Edition (Chicago, IL): A breathtaking wine that is still so young. Pure, rich, tarry red cherry laced with spice and florals. Lots of tarry grip to match the deeply concentrated fruit. Great now and even better with a decade.

November 13, 2021 - Nebbiolos, white truffles, Volume VI (Chicago, IL): Very primary. This doesn't show its age at all, and apart from the tannins starting to lose any remaining rough edges, I would never have guessed a wine of this age. The fruit is quite dark in profile (especially next to the 2000) and there is good intensity there. The tannins provide a somewhat thick texture to this wine. I could see this evolving into something like the 1989.
