Community Tasting Notes 5

May 12, 2013 - Dark purple, ruby; youthful appearance; more subtle nose of black cherry black berry, and dried spices and fern and a hint of new oak; mouth is silky, elegant, with medium high acidity and a long tangy, tart finish. this is still very young, was slightly austere, slightly lighter body with a metalic minerality to it. Good but just seemed to beg for another 5-10 in the cellar. Has the lean, tart cherry/mineral aspect of a Savigny. W/ lamb at Leka. 91-92

September 24, 2011 - Fragrant nose, however, on the palate tasted tart & slightly bitter. A disappointment.

July 24, 2011 - This is running a tight ship with little giving away at the start. Brambly and spicy racy black cherries. Needs abt am hour decanting before it soften to reveal more saucy notes. It's good no doubt but like most 99s this is hard as nails for now.

July 16, 2011 - Tight nose on the open, thick dark fruits on the nose. Figs and dark berries. Ripe fruit and alluring tannins. Bittersweetness on the back. This needs time in the bottle upon opening, otherwise it would be rather closed up.

July 16, 2011 - K & J's Wedding Dinner (Intercontinental Hotel, Singapore): Very good indeed - this ran the Rioja close as red wine of the night. It had a rather sweet, richly scented strawberry nose, with a bit raspberry ripple maybe and flecked with hints of Leroy's characteristic stemminess. The palate was a bit tight at first, slightly muted, but it had a really nice feel to it, with freshness, ripeness, power and finesse all rounded together into a dark cherry and red fruit flavoured palate spiked with touches of earth and mineral. It opened up very nicely with time, taking on pure, sweet strawberry notes framed by fine tannins and fresh acidity that made it a lovely pairing for a roast duck dish. This needs time yet, but it was quite lovely even on the night.
