October 3, 2020 - From Magnum. Double decanted 2 hours prior. The same burnt red cherry, spices, and iron as a Giacosa Falletto tasted alongside. A slightly richer wine at first, but less length as the Falletto opened up. Six hours later, it is showing less spice but more meat and savory aromas. A long finish and still-strong tannin. This bottle was showing well and helped answer questions about the ’89 vintage: well stored bottles continue to be vibrant and alive. The Produttori was fabulous and had years of pleasure left to give.

February 10, 2019 - Riesling Freaks lazy afternoon lunch (Chez Hugo - Baltimore): En magnum. Fully mature nose displaying slightly dry red and black fruit, dry cherry, blackberry liqueur, licorice, leather, dark spices, rusty nail and steely mineral. Fully mature palate with concentrated dry fruit. There is mouth puckering tannin that almost numbs your palate. Tom mentions that it improves with air. I agree but I still prefer the Rabaja as I am unable to get over the initial monster tannin impression.

July 14, 2018 - The Kirsch Italian Extravaganza (677 Prime, Albany, NY): [From a magnum double-decanted around 2pm.] Tight, smoky, red fruit nose. In the mouth, black fruit, long and complex. So delicious. Just singing now.

August 4, 2017 - All magnum Produttori dinner at Aromes (Aromes Restaurant, Baltimore): En magnum, pretty similar to the other two 89s, added licorice perhaps. Mature nose displaying dry cherry, cherry liqueur, fruitcake, a hint of licorice, rusty nail, leather and earth. Mature palate, dry cherry fruit driven palate impression, silky, round, good mineral presence via iron, bright acidity, a hint of rustic tannins and a medium to long finish. Clearly more refined than the 90 Montestefano but the least refined among the 89s.

October 27, 2014 - 1989 Produttori del Barbaresco with Chambers Street Wines (Maialino, NYC): Beautiful ruby, lightest bricking. The nose reminds me of the '89 Ovello in its reserve and breed; red apple skins; ripe bing cherries; nascent baking spices; concentrated rose perfume and red cherry liqueur. Lovely, and, frankly, perfect. The palate has gorgeous, tongue-enveloping sweetness; exceedingly refined and well textured... wow! classic, pure cherry velvet. Incredible balance, incredible length. Will run forever, roughly, but is certainly more than enjoyable now. Great wine.
