Community Tasting Notes 10

November 28, 2021 - Second of two bottle lot acquired (almost a year between tries). The nose on this bottle was much better - more open with perfumed purple fruit. The nose led better than the palate, though this tasting was less muted compared to the last bottle. This was a straight bottle pour vs short decant last time. Nose seems to be close to peak but not enough in the mid palate to warrant holding out much longer. I'd place the nose between a good 1er and mid-GC wine and the palate squarely in the depth of a middling 1er cru

October 29, 2021 - Savory and earthy, with dark red fruit playing a supporting role. Perhaps slightly dilute in the midpalate, with the fruit outweighed by the vintage's signature tannic asperity, but with nice intensity returning through the finish. I don't think the fruit is going to outlive the tannins here, so I don't see any reason to hold this further.

December 12, 2020 - Upon opening definitely showed its age. Slightly stewed fruit slowly gave way to fresher aromas after an hour or two. Nothing bright, but still enjoyable - no weight of a grand cru parcel, but you could tell there are layers and nuances that have probably seen better days. Showed surprising glimpses of perfumed mid palate but failed to hold there for too long. I will be having my other bottle soon, still enjoyable, probably past peak and not groundbreaking

October 29, 2016 - Same bottle described by Salil and Adrian. Tight on opening, darker barnyard-y fruit comes through, however the structure of the wine predominates with the fruit a bit muted--I'd hoped for a bit more from this bottle.

October 29, 2016 - Adrian's note nails it - very nice, though surprisingly hefty and black fruited for what I expect from Bertheau. (I wonder if there's been a stylistic change here in the past couple of decades.) The fruit's quite rich and accented by some low toned earthy and faintly mushroomy notes, with some fine grained tannin on the back end. It's a big wine but well balanced, though struggled a little bit when poured alongside the Dujac.
