Community Tasting Notes 34

  • astroman Does not like this wine:

January 25, 2023 - PnP. Still very austere and rustic, a very old school style from current. Hint of pepper with coarse tannins. Need more time for the tannins to resolved.

January 23, 2023 - Supple and opulent, with notes of blueberry and sous bois. At peak, not a lot of complexity here but very satisfying and broad. Great match to a Boeuf Bourguignon.

April 1, 2021 - 3rd of 6, opened 90 minutes, perfect cork and level, tighter and more focussed fruit flavours happily than last bottle in 2019, youthful, upside yet. F+ (18).

February 21, 2020 - Final dinner of PNV week - "mostly non Cab" palate rinse, great lineup...Brooke runs the show! (Ad Hoc, Yountville CA): From Magnum, generous contribution from Jay.

Medium ruby color. Rich nose of savory notes, iron, black raspberry. Palate of "sweet" cherry, blackberries, licorice. Richer more masculine Burgundy. Medium weight, layered finish.

In a good spot, doubt this improves much from here. Magnum format aged well

July 15, 2019 - 2nd of 6, opened 30 minutes, perfect cork and level, now on maturity plateau though little rim development, flavour profile consistent with my note of May 14, though showing a tad more meat, spice and earth, not quite as pure and clearly delineated as I'd like (may yet tighten and sharpen given the weight and generosity of fruit), muddy notes hinting at pushing extraction supported by dense colours, scope for further development for 10 plus years. Just about F+ (18).
