August 15, 2023 - The best showing of the three bottles over the past few years. This time I double decanted off the sediment and recorded an hour before drinking. Showed beautifully, with deeply pitched dark fruit and soil aromatics, complex and evolving in the glass still. The nose is enticing and pretty and also shows some of the brooding character that for me is typical of Bonnes Mares. Balanced and fresh on the palate, good sensory without weight, pungent on the finish. Feels like it’s still coiled on the palate - not yet revealing the complexity of the nose. Lovely wine with a decade solid of upside development, it would seem.

April 25, 2019 - Immediately lovely upon opening - fresh ripe and genuinely beautiful fruit. Soil tones emerge after 15 mins or so in the glass. Pure pleasure. Not offering the most complex or profound Bonnes Mares experience, and doesn’t appear to have the density of material that would reward long term aging. So maybe this is an atypical Bonnes Mares. But it’s likely true to what the vintage gave, and the wine is truly lovely.

February 20, 2018 - Drank this one late at night. But not late enough to forget the details around this jewel of a wine. I wrapped the bottle in aluminum foil to blind the wine for the others around the table.
Straight from the bottle the wine jumps out of the glass to greet you. Extremely open and accessible. Flowing with luscious fruitiness. On the palate it follows up nicely with intense, powerful and lovely fruit. Bonfire and bacon under the fruit was the reason one of the others around the table guessed Bonnes Mares after the first sip! Impressive.
The wine itself does very well right now. I have earlier noted that Arlaud in general punches a bit under its appellation, and that 2007 often lacks in intensity and concentration. So you would think this wine would show less than expected. But that is not the case. Not much is lacking here. The intensity also grows after 10-15 minutes in the glass and the result is an extremely complete wine. Enormously open and playful. Gentle tannins and acidity perfectly balanced by the cold and powerful fruit which fills every crevice of the mouth with explosive power. This is a formula-one car in a bottle. Dressed in velvet.
Completely loveable right now, and will continue being so for at least 5 years. Most likely much longer.
