October 18, 2023 - I had never come across a Clos Vougeot offering from Domaine Ponsot and so when this popped up for sale, I had to jump on the opportunity to try it. Slow oxing it for about half an hour before consuming, the nose was a little muted, really only giving off redcurrants with a hint of spices. The palette, though, felt extremely balanced as those same redcurrants worked with cedar, herbs and a hint of smokiness to produce a palette that drank considerably younger than the age of this bottle. As a whole, this was a solid example of Ponsot winemaking but not one of the domaine's Grand Crus that blew me away.
